Mine were hand computed. The computer registered about 1mpg less. I have 3:55 gears & a 500 # box in bed. Weight varied in cab. I also was light footed from watching the gauge on display. The truck has a feature that greatly cuts fuel supply while coasting & can be seen in display. I've only put my foot down a couple times so far. I'll keep watching it as the miles build. I do 38K mi. + a year.

I'll tell ya guys, this gas price thing is really starting to scare me. I'll be the first to say that they aren't built for MPG's but it certainly takes the fun out of ownership when it costs $150.00 to fill her up from empty.

Yes, I am cheap and I try to be a little frugal but I also want this truck more than anything right now. I may have to compromise with myself and get an Screw 4x2 with the 3.7L instead of an Screw 4x4 5.0L.

Anyone think it'll make that big of a difference in MPG's? Would it be worth it to down grade that much?

Tim, I guess it's a question of whether or not you want to settle for that truck or stay your course and get the truck you want. In the long run, I doubt the mileage difference will be enough to make it worth not getting the 5.0 if that's what you want.

Thanks for that John. All through my kid's growing years I sidelined my wants and some of my needs to ensure that my family had what they wanted and needed. I just haven't learned how to take care of me yet.

I see you are retired as I am also.I bought the 5.0 in a 2011 F150.The way I see it I do not spend a lot of money on expensive hobbies and I am a little fugal also but I also worked 42 years and I think if I want to spend some of my money on the enjoyment of a new truck then I will.Get what you want or you will be disappointed with it.I bought a 4X4 and truthfully living in South Carolina I do not need one.Untill recently I have lived in a mountainous area with lots of snow and got accustomed to having a 4X4.I decided I would stick with the 4X4 as I travel to the mountains often. When you trade in the 4X4 option retains its value. As far as gas mileage you will lose some in city driving by having a 4X4 but I do not think you will lose 2 MPG on highway mileage if you keep your speed down below 70 mph.Even if you lose 2 mpg how much is that in a years time? Maybe $100 at most.Get what you want and you will be happy in the long run.
By the way mine is a 4X4 and I have about 320 miles of mixed driving and the computer says I have averaged 18.0 so far.

Hey Bro' get what you want as much as what you need. I got a ranger because it was in my budget and was what I needed. Now the lil' guy is still a great little truck (little is the prime word here), but now I could really use a bigger bed. Plus I am staring at all these beautiful full size fords and I am regretting my choice. I will wait another 3.5 years until my wife's edge is paid for then I will get what I want, because I will be happier in the long run. besides the 5.0 is not a slouch in the mpg department either.

15 I could possibly swallow. The above stated 18 or 19? Negative.

Update: Ok I have almost 3000 miles on my truck now and never reset the trip "B" so I can see what the computer gives me for an overall reading... drum roll... 14.9! My old truck was equipped the same as this one and was averaging 13.8. Also I don't drive it thinking about conserving fuel, I just drive with a little bit of a heavy right foot, I'm usually taking off from lights and pulling away from most cars if that helps..

15,000/21.0=714 * $3.25 Gallon = $2,320 (where I hope to be with the V6)
15,000/19.0=780 * $3.25 Gallon = $2,535
15,000/17.0=882 * $3.25 Gallon = $2,867

Not a big difference ... .
