Flashing MIL reading code

My 95F250 PSD started flashing the OD light today also upshifts were very hard. I shut it down then started back up and it was fine. Did this 2 days in a row now. Question is, will a hard code be stored in the computer memory? I was gonna bring it to Autozone and have them run the scanner on it, but I won't bother if the code gets erased.
Thanks,
Rich

Yes, the code will remain. If you have the "EEC TEST" connector under the hood by the L hinge, you can do it yourself with a paperclip:
