Are they sensatracs by chance? Those are the only ones I have heard this about although mine haven't done it. It is hard to say without seeing it but a few washers might fix the problem if it is a side to side thing. I thought the monroe problem was bolts that were a bit too small making the shocks move more up and down in the hole.

no, they are skyjacker nitro 8000's. the manufacturer said that they had sent out a bad batch of bushings but sent replacements. i installed them about 6 or 7 months ago and now im hearing the rattle.

My experience has been that the sleeves the mounting bolts pass through are larger than the bolts by a good amount like the difference between SAE and metric bolt sizes.
If the shock is not squeezed on the sides, a movement rattle can develope.
Only way is to shim to take up the clearence or replace the mounting bolts if worn.

I've had a couple of sets in the recent past that didn't fit right at the top. The rubber bushings supplied were too thin. With everything assembled, I needed another 1/4" at least, of threads for the top nut. Made them work by using some of the old cupped washers. I can see trying to streamline inventories, but heavier bushings would have been a better idea. They would have fit most truck shocks and anything a little smaller.
