How do you guys feel about the 460 vs the Ford V-10? I read somewhere on this site about if Ford would have refined the 460, that it would kick the V-10's butt. I think that it does any way. What if Ford could have made it a 4v per cyl. motor. Or is that not possible? Nothing against the V-10, but I just like big cubes better than more little ones. I know that the 460 would fit into the new trucks, because the PSD fit and they are pretty much the same size. NOTE: I did not say the same motor. LOL. Also with Chebby coming out with the 8.1 which is 498 cid I believe, and Dodge hving a 488 cid V-10, I think that Ford should look into gettin back with a big block. Just my 2 cents.
I have seen some 4 valve heads for a 460... pricy. As for the 460 vs. V-10? I'll take them on if I can put as much into my truck as they pay for the new truck! It's all apples to oranges but a DOHC 460 does sound cool!
Naw, but I would like to finish the twin turbo 460 for it. We won't have clost to that in it. I figure with paint & everything, maybe $12K... Then I'll go to New Mexico & see if my bud wants to stack his V-10 up against it
Skeetkiller:
As you can see from my signature, I've got one of each of the engines, so I'm in a good position to compare them.
My 7.5l is only rated at 245 HP and with the 4.10 rearend, gets about 11.5mpg on the hwy, less around town and only 6-7 mpg when towing.
My 6.8l is rated at 310 HP and with the 3.73 reaarend, it gets 15-17 on the hwy and I can maintain 11 when towing if I accellerate downhill and ease up on the pedal going uphill while averaging 65+mph.
At 414ci, doesn't the 6.8l qualify as a big block? Just not as big as others?
The 6.8l runs circles around the 7.5l in every way from HP, torque smoothness, quietness, and most importantly pushing me back into the seat when I want to. Don't get me wrong, the 7.5l is a great engine, the 6.8l is just better!

I just rode with a buddy of mine on the weekend on a 2 hour freeway trip. While his V-10 did run smoother than my 460, I still think that mine has more better power/torque feel. He got on it a couple of times and it just didn't seem to come alive like my 460. his truck is a 2000 F-350 4x4 V-10 auto, not sure what rear's, 3:73's I think. He has got a 79 350 4by with a 460, and says there is no way in h@## that the V-10 is better, but different motors and years. I think that Ford really discounted the numbers on the 460, maybe by 20-30 hp and 50-60 ft torque. Mine is a 97 with a 11/97 build date so maybe I got one that they let loose with.
Yeah I guess that you could call 414ci a big block, but you also have 2 more cylinders. . Maybe you got a long big block. LOL.
As far as the V-10 running circles around the 460, I don't know about that. I do know that on the pulling track, the V10 won't touch a 460. I have seen this personally and beat the crap out of the Dodge V10. Next I want to whoop a$$ on the Chebby 8.1.
