Additional Winter Start Question

I've read the Winter cold start sticky thread.

7.3L with fairly new glow plugs and GPCM. 200,000 miles
I've had it since new and have kept up with maintenance for it's entire life.

My problem is when my Ex sits for more than a week. It cranks over strong. It fires as long as the starter is cranking. I'll do this in 20 second intervals. I then let it sit for about ten minutes. Then it will actually start and run on its own. It will run extremely rough till it warms up - about ten more minutes. Now for the question.

Gelling? IDK

Will fuel additive help, I normally use Stanadyne, but haven't used it in the last several fillups. This truck sits alot, I only use it to go hunting.
Is there something I can do that will help it be ready to go when I am?

With your mileage, I would suspect an oil issue. I had a similar problem and I replaced my LPOP and it solved the issue. Riffraff Diesel: Melling LPOP

It runs strong and consistent after that process. It will start and run well tomorrow. The oil pressure has never waivered. I'm not liking your solution. I'm not saying your Wrong, but I'm hoping you are. I'll post after I've run some treated winter blend though it. I haven't fueled up in over a month because it doesn't get driven much.

Where I live in Colorado doesn't get much snow, but it gets cold.

I guess I was fishing for best brands of Diesel Additives as much as anything.

Franktown, CO? I graduated from Douglas County High. Has it been that cold so far? Pick up a bottle of Diesel Kleen in the white bottle. If that's your issue, that should fix it.

did you try pluging the truck in (blockk heater) that would eliminate a glow plug issue. wes

After the truck sits for a long period, before trying to start it, check the level of the HPOP.. It should be about 3/4" of the top.. (use the allen wrench as a dip stick)
