Does anyone have a carb'd 4.6 in an early truck or for that matter a FI one?
How do you like the power from the previous motor or similar trucks you have owned?
I know the motor is supposed to be peaky or you have to rev it a bit to get the power out of.
I know theres a 4.6 2V sohc manifold, but is there one for the 5.4 or DOHC cam motors? Or even the new 3V thats are really cool?
I used to talk to a guy who put a carb'd 4.8 Chevy in a square body and he loved it compared to the old 350 with bolt-ons he had. He said more power, better economy, plus general driveability was up too.
I've got (what I think is) a 1970 460 ci in my 65 f100 with a Holley 4150 carb, it's no super screamer but it sounds great, gets decent mileage and runs very smooth. The 4150 is a 600 cfm carb with vacuum secondaries, affordable, very easy to adjust and a lot of information out there if you run into any problems and need help.
He's looking for a 4.6 owner, not a 460. I plan on putting a 4.6 from a Lincoln Mark VIII into my '65 F250, along with the IRS. I'm going to do the front suspension from a 2004 Mercury Grand Marque as well.

I built a stroked 4.6 DOHC for mustang and I used the sullivan performance carb intake....I made right at 400 rwhp with mild setup.....I later did a blow thru carb on it with a 91mm turbo
I am building a 5.4 navi motor for my 66 with stage 3 ported Ford GT heads....And it will be carbed with a turbo if I should keep this engine and not sell it before I get to install it in my truck....anymore questions just ask me.
Edelbrock 4.6 intake requires the PI heads 99 or later and the coil on plugs. It will not fit the early, 3 valve r four cam heads.
The standalone electronics are nice that they offer.
I am in the process of making a aluminum sheet metal intake to mount a 6-71 GMC, and a reverse alternator mount to relocate the alt to the drivers head area.

Just buy a donor and transfer everything over. I have seen a few on trucks and have a 95 T Bird with the 4.6 bone stock and it scoots pretty well. The engine produces good torque and drives well.
I was talking to my partner last night, he has done quite a few of these in older Mustangs with very good success. He said that they seem to work very well. He also recommends the Sullivan intake. That is what he currently has on a stroked 4.6 liter 03 Cobra that made 1103 hp at the wheels. It was fuel injected though using the adapter plate to a throttle body with injectors mounted in the intake.
