Electrical issue (diesel)
Trying to get this solved. Long story short, I have a 00' Excursion PSD. Lots of aftermarket stuff (radio, air horn/compressor/led lights, etc). I recently had some HID lights installed, and am having a problem. When I turn the headlights on, mostly only one comes on (I did verify the ground is good). When the other lights DOES fire up, it makes the truck stutter or stall. Also, the CEL light and water in fuel lights come on, which prolly means the PCM power signal is interrupted.
I've cleaned battery engine grounds and terminals, put new ring terminals on all + and - feeds, new terminal clamp bolts, and had the batteries and alternator tested twice.
I put an ohm meter on the battery to test. Found just over 13 w truck off, just over 14 at idle, and about 14.5 while revving. When lights are turned on w truck running, meter jumped to about 15.5, then dropped to about 12.5 and then climbs back to normal. No drop on the battery gauge in the cab. When I turn on anything else, including my compressor which pulls 12 amps, there are no problems. I HAVE noticed the truck stutter similarly when I use my air horn, but maybe 3 or 4 times in 2 years, whereas this light problem is constant.
Any ideas? Thanks!
