I was backing into the driveway tonight and put it in 4 low (automatic from **** on the dash) in order to get over a snow drift and not ram into the house. When I went to move it I didn't wait for the glow plugs to finish their job and so it didn't start. I heard a "popping" sound from the rear passenger area and actually thought it was my wife banging on the rear of the truck so I got out to look, but no wife there.
So I got back in, waited for the glow plugs to finish and then it started right up. I switched back to 2 wheel drive but the 4-low did not disengage. So I moved it around a bit and ended up driving around the block, doing some stops and driving in reverse for a few feet etc. However, it remains in 4-Low. I have restarted it, switched it back to 4-Low, 4-High, 2-High etc.
Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it? Perhaps the popping was incidental but I thought I would mention everything.
to go in/out of low you need to be in N and your foot on the brake. it should go right in/out if not one thing i'd check is your brake lights because i think it uses the brake light sensor on the pedel to know when your on them or not. or i could be toatly wrong but its my guess haha hope it works!
What I didn't realize is you have to step on the brake while in neutral to shift out of low range. What I wouldn't give for the owners manual. Thanks for your ideas.
Unbelievable!!! Thanks so much. I have been trying to find the diesel supplement. Guys are selling them on ebay so I am amazed and this find and your generosity. How about my undying gratitude?
Cheers,
