head gaskets replacement

I am starting to clean the heads, replace the injector sleeves and orings and start putting this thing back together. What should I use to clean the heads to get the factory residue off and just plain clean them up? What can I use to clean the carbon off the injector nozzels. When I put the head gasket back on, should I use an adhesive? I read the posts about the sleeve replacements and am having a diesel mech help me with that (he has the tools) What can I use to guide the head back into position in the block (pins or dowels or maybe cut a few of the used head bolts and use them?) I'm up on making sure all fluids are out of the chambers before firing her up.....just want to do this right the first time and use the proper materials so as not to damage anything. Thanks
Glenn

They already have dowels on them. That's more than enough. I've always used the high temp hi tack. Spray stuff. I spray both sides of the gasket. For cleaning them there are lots of chemicals out there that will do it but a gasket scraper works best. Or a razor blade. Then you can finish it with a big scotchbrite pad on a die grinder. Just don't try to remove metal with it.

Make sure head and deck are very clean. Remove all gasket material and clean with scotchbrite. Use a brass injector brush to clean nozzles. Don't use adhesive when installing head gasket.
