Ever heard of the mouse trap cars? Kinda like that. You get 1.5 joules of spring energy to drive the car the farthest you can. Today is the prototype launch, then we have to rework it for the final model.

Not yet, but I can snap some later. We wanted to do a double gearset, but at this time, we weren't allowed to use bearings, so we made plastic block bushings, so we had to drop a gearset to make it work. We also plan on using a stronger spring for getting it moving, then use the spring we have to keep it moving, but at this time, we only have the one spring set up.

A couple shots of the car. In current format, it went 33 feet under it's own power, and was the only car that moved to run straight... The funny thing about that is that one of the TA's tried to argue that it would be more likely to turn with 3 wheels than 4 like everyone else was doing, while I argued that it would be the same no matter 3 or 4 wheels.

Apparently one of the cars with a semi-similar design to ours went about 77 feet... There was one design that they tried to make it with just two wheels, but it wasn't ready to go. Unless they add something to keep it from spinning centrally, it will likely just spin itself out without any actual motion... Kind of like a helicopter with the tail rotor failed...
