Heater core
I have an 89 f150 that is over heating. It takes quite a while for it to over heat. I've put in a new thermostat and checked the pump. I took off the heater hoses and tried to blow air through the core it seems to be plugged. Is there a valve that stops the circulation, or do I have a plugged core. If it is plugged, how do I get it unplugged? Thanks guys, I appreciate your help.

I don't remember a valve in an 89, and I don't think this is your overheating problem (I could be wrong), but if it is clogged, it's probably just as quick and easy, if not cheaper to just replace it. I got a brand new replacement from NAPA for $20.

There's no OE heater core valve in FS Ford trucks '80-96, but the water in the core could make you think the air wasn't moving if you only applied pressure for a moment. A plugged or even deleted heater core won't cause the engine to overheat - you have other issues.
