I just came home with a few gallons of Mercon SP and the FT-145 filter to do a filter and fluid swap.
I figured before I drained the pan I'd see if I could get off the filter cover.
I can't move it for the life of me. I even had the bar off the serpentine belt tool on there and still no joy.
How much torque can this thing take before I break it off the frame?
I don't own an impact wrench but I do have a hammer drill. How about I put the socket on there and use the kick off the drill to move it? ... is that too redneck? .... although who cares if it works right?
I think your much better off with using a pneumatic impact wrench at this point. doing the slow torque method is a good way to break the lines to the filter housing.

I think you're right.
After posting the question I sat back and looked at my computer for a minute ... then realized I'd be making another trip into town for a $30 impact wrench. I already have the air compressor and now I have an excuse to add to my tool collection.
Remember not to use anything but hand tight then 10-15 ft. lb. of torque to secure it. Also lube the Oring that comes with the new filter and watch how the spring inside the canister goes back in. Ford PN # for the filter is 3c3p7c01z33 which is made for Ford by NTZ corp.
Thanks for the advice. Although my filter didn't come with an O-ring. All I got in the box was the toilet paper roll.
That's why you should buy them online because they come with the Oring. Ford like to squeeze your wallet extra for the Oring. Last time I purchased them online from dieselfilters.com they were about $12 each. I change my trans filter every other motor oil change because I drain the trans pan and re-add 8 quarts of Mercon LV

Just to make sure the Piolet understands only the NTZ's come with the o-ring. If you order a motorcraft one even o-line it DOES NOT come with the o-ring

B*st*rds!!
Funny .. the guy at the parts counter never mentioned there was an o-ring for sale also.
I guess I pay the price for leaving it all to the last minute. I was under the truck working on the block heater cable when I noticed tranny fluid leaking from where the passanger side hose attaches to the filter housing.
I figured it was possibly clogged and I better get it changed immediately and so I bought a filter from the local dealer rather than wait for one to ship. Now I guess I got to go back for that o-ring.
I'm on Dieselfiltersonline.com right now. I think I'll order them there and leave the truck parked for a few days.
Buy the NTZ's for $12.99 the Motorcraft's are $22 Both are marked with the Ford logo and part# but you pay $9 more for the deluxe Motorcraft package with no Oring.

Not trying to tell you what to do..But I would order oil & fuel filters at the same time. Order the Racor Brand Fuel & Oil
they are cheaper and Racor make's them for Ford Motorcraft. Shipping will be 8.95 if you order 1 or 5 items.
