Fairly original 66 F100
Fairly original 66 F100
A few months ago I got to look at a 66 F100 that is kinda for sale...lol
An elderly couple have had this truck since new (I think that's what they said, not sure). The husband has passed away & the wife is now heading to the nursing home, the family has not decided how to go about selling the stuff yet.
Had a so so repaint several years ago. I did notice the original auto trans has been replaced with a C6.
Thought some of you guys might enjoy a look at it...

1966 F100 Custom Cab ordered from Memphis TN, assembled in Kansas City with a 352 2V / MX C-O-M / Dana 44 3.54-1 rear axle with Limited Slip, tu-tone Rangoon Red/Wimbledon White paint.
The hubcaps are incorrect, are the painted "outie" Standard Cab version. Custom Cab would have come with the stainless steel version of this hubcap.
What makes y'all think the MX C-O-M has been replaced by a C6? I see no indication of that.

Thanks, could it have had this type tu-tone (just top of cab)??

Did ya notice they painted the grille argent?

Because it now has a C6 in it.

It originally was a Custom Cab because (among other things), stainless steel w/shield reveal mouldings are present along with the plastic "sweep speedo" instrument cluster bezel.
The BODY code is D81: D = Medium Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Cody Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81B Custom Cab.
Did someone paint the original Custom Cab anodized aluminum grille argent, or has the anodized grille been replaced by a steel grille?
The COLOR code is JM, the primary color is always listed first. This means that the tu-tone paint scheme is now in-correct. Originally the roof and below the side mouldings was Rangoon Red (primary color), while the center section would have been Wimbledon White.
Has the trans been visually checked to see if it's a C6 (not available until 1968), or are y'all just going by what someone said?

Lookin it over like a hawk. Lol
If I remember correct, I first noticed C9?? type number when I pulled the trans dipstick.
Then I tasted the trans fluid & said yep, C6 for sure.
I've always been the guy that'll crawl up under a rig when I'm lookin at it.
You know wipe the rear axle tag off & stuff like that.
Anyway, yes Bill, I saw it with my own two eyes, just tryin to be a pain.

The EZ way to tell one from another: MX C-O-M = 14 trans pan bolt holes / C6 = 17 trans pan bolt holes.
Type F ATF was used for ALL FoMoCo A/T's (F-O-M/C-O-M/Turbo-Drive, Hydra-Matic [1950/55 Lincoln's], C3/C4/C6) thru 1976. 1977 and later C4/C6's used MERCON.
I crawled under the truck & saw it with my own two eyes.
Tasting the fluid was a joke.
And I will regret this but I think the C4 (only) used type F later than 76.
In closing I would like to recap:
I crawled under the truck and looked at the transmission myself, nobody mislead me, I saw it myself.
Thank you and good night.
