speed sensor help..SUPERDUTY

ok fellows im a new member however I have been snatching info from this board for over a year now so thanks....

I now have a problem I need to resolve and cant find a match on achives..

I recently purchased a 94 superduty 10 lug wrecker and the speedo/odo doesnt work..I was told by the po the rearend went out and they had to replace it with a newer one?? so they said it had the speedo sensor on it and the newer one did not..

My question is has anybody else did this and if so what was the fix?? The po claimed the newer one was on the tranny and I thought it was the other way around?? This is a 5sp powerstroke truck...

if only guesses would pay for parts I'd be in....

looking for an option to work around what I already have...

if price was no object, time was endless..I would have already swapped out the rearend...but it works just fine besides the speedo/odmter..

thanks tho..

The PO is a liar. Unless the axle he put in is from a van it has aVSS sensor on the axle

I have 2 OBS F-Superduty's. The 91 auto uses a speedo cable off the driveline parking brake. I have a spare ZF and Dana 80 off a 91 it is the same. I thought the 97 was the same. Just looked under there and it does not have the cable. So I guess it uses the VSS on rear end. The van Dana 80's are much wider and are 8 lug. I don't know if any of that helps but there it is. Information on the older F450's is hard to come by. It looks like you would need a rearend with the VSS but I would not worry about it with the 5.13 or 4.68 gears.
