The above is the Dieselsite recommendation. On mine, I had recently done 3 flush/fills, so I have not followed their schedule. I am at about 9 months now, and I am monitoring the return line to determine when the flow has slowed. I intend to change it at 1 year, whether the flow indicates the need or not.

Look at page 18 or 19 of the above file under "drop out" and perhaps this is what is going on in the apparently sand-free filter element paper.

I can agree with the drop out noted in the post above from the Detroit diesel info. Recently I was on the other form I think powerstroke org forum, and there was a post that had pictures of an oil cooler cut in half. It had globs of antifreeze coloured gel like globs in the coolant passages blocking the flow. When the globs dried they formed a white to gray / red powder. Possibly and I am just guessing the high heat in the egr cooler is causing the gold coolant to thicken and gel. I wish I could find that post again. Didn't have a chance to get at the old filter yet - maybe tomorrow. The Detroit diesel doc says talks about flushing the engine to get the slime out, but if allowed to dry in side the engine it has to be dismantled to clean it, not something to look forward to!
