460 needs tranny help

My buddy has a modestly modified 460. Bored .040 over Offenhouser Intake, Mild cam and 850 Holly. It runs strong but it was in a 72 Grand Torino that has returned to the earth (Rusted bad). He picked up a 1974 F-250 that had a good body and an OK 390 sold the 390 and wants to install the 460 from the Torino. The Torino was on the road basically to get it to the drag strip. He would horse around with it but knothing real heavy, Stop light to stop light a few times. It has had 2 C-6's and believe it or not they are'nt holding up as well as they shoud. So his thought was to put a T-18 in it. I set him up with a T-18 but it came out of a Carrier Bearing truck. He would like to put a straight drive shaft in it. Can the tail be removed and the solid yoke be removed allowing a slip type yoke to be installed? Thanks -Ed
