Ford Lockpick

Just as a follow up from various discussions on this forumn, i got the Ford Lockpick installed last night (15-30 min) and it works as advertised. DVD in motion, nav input in motion, and you can watch your rear camera at any time.

While going through the program setup it asks if you have a factory rear camera and asks if you would like to add a second which is deceiving since Lockpick has indicated this function will not work.

All around great product so far. Hardest part was trying to cram all the wiring back into the dash.

Mine is on order. You have any helpful hints on the installation? I understand that the panel needs to come apart to get to the back of the radio. Are the instructions pretty good or can you share anything to make it easier to do.

Did you have the OEM camera already or not? I mean do you have 2 cameras in use now?

I have the factory camera and no 2nd camera. installation is pretty easy. Pop out the sync plug on the right and the power outlet on the left with a small screwdriver and there is a 7mm bolt behind each. The panel pops off and exposes 4 7mm bolts holding the radio in place. Plug everything in and shove all the wires in back and replace.

Thanks man! I can't wait to install it. I am a bit frustrated with the navigation limits that are place on you. Hoping this will correct them. If I want to be stupid, let me be stupid...

FYI - I was just online this morning ordering one and there's an update for the Fords -

12/16/10 - Latest update for the FORD SYNC LOCKPICK version 1.2 - Continued advancement in communications and control for all Ford/Lincoln/Mercury applications. Enables Vehicle Health Reports in late model applications

I didn't know about that one. The one I am waiting for is the support of a second camera.

Put me on that list. I need a camera that can be mounted high on the back of the toy hauler to view what's back there when I'm moving in reverse or not. I definitely want to use the integrated navigation screen rather than a separate one.

I will be staying on top of this one! I am really hoping that the new features can be flashed via the USB port. It still means we need to pull the panel apart a second time to get the new harness in, but I agree with you, having it integrated is the way to go.

I am not real happy with Ford's restrictions on the unit. They must think we drive solo all the time. It would be great to allow the co-pilot to share in some of the navigation responsibilities instead of just sitting there looking pretty!

Its not just Ford.. all the aftermarket units have the same restrictions.
I had to make some changes on my Pioneer unit.

I'm another one waiting on the camera feature without losing my factory backup cam. Will order one the day it's available. I wonder if they know how many of us want this?

Same here, but I have decided on a different approach.
I will most likely add one of the aftermarket OEM rear view mirrors with the built in monitor..

That way the rear trailer cam can stay on all the time, don't need the mirror anyway once the trailer is hooked up.

Will most likely add a 2nd cam to that for the left side for the blind spot created while backing to the right.

Rear swing on RV trailers can really be an issue.

I like that idea. I'm hesitant to lose that great auto-dimming OEM mirror though. Also, would the image be too small in the rear view mirror? I haven't seen one so I don't know. We need a web link and a YouTube demo video.

Auto dimming is nice, but would not be a deal breaker for me to do this.
Here is one example.

Car Rear View Camera - Multimedia Rear View Mirror - 4” LCD color monitor

Forgot this link, trailer quick connector

Trailer Tow Quick Connect/Disconnect Kit Model # RVS-213

This is another version., Gentex. They seem to the leaders in this technolgy.

Amazon.com: gentex rear view camera display mirror: Automotive

Gentex make mirrors with monitors that are auto dimming. I think they are also the supplier for the mirrors in our truck now.
