Changed oil - Thanks

Pulled the trigger on the first oil change and it couldn't have been easier. Although not a difficult thing to do, it was made easier by the Epic video and all of the information on using Motorcraft filters, CJ-4 oils, etc.

I did want to note three things.

A 5 gallon Home Depot bucket did not fit past the brackets/braces/frame when setting on level ground, although there is enough clearance under the oil pan (F-250). Good thing I checked prior so that I could elevate the right front tire a few inches to provide clearance. If you use this bucket consider getting the black lid for it. It's low profile, snaps on easily and seals well.

Compared my prior F-150 there is much more oil that leaks out when the filter is unscrewed. Was a bit surprised to see that quantity.

On the old school information center there does not seem to be any confirmation that the system accepted the oil change interval reset.

Thanks for all of the information on the forum - it saved me close to $100.

Glad to hear we have another DIY disciple!

There are lots of reasons why I love to do this stuff myself.

1. NOBODY cares about my truck the way I do.
2. I save lots of money
3. I know the job is done right; I've had dealers screw up oil changes on my 6.4L!
4. I get the chance to play around underneath and spot problems before they become major. Found a serious transmission fluid leak on my '08 when it was only 4,000 miles old! Wouldn't have had a clue until the truck stopped moving unless I did this stuff myself!

5. Call me strange, but it's FUN!

I'm with you on the fun part! My problem is the fun starts to fade when you try to keep up with vehicles, mower, tractors, and UTVs. It definitely helps when you stay stocked on the fluids and filters so you can buy in bulk!

At least doing your own oil change guarantees that you will get the oil you pay for instead of whatever was the cheapest bulk rate that month.

Just need to clarify. Went out again and tried the reset for the oil change, I did get a confirmation message this time. Must not have held down the reset long enough.

To address crazy's post - I agree 100%. Many of the dealerships view our trucks as a commodity and feel/have no sense of ownership.
