I have what sounds like a slight rattle coming from my upper end. If I had to guess I would say the valve train (i.e. loose rocker arms). It only seems to be prvelent when the engine is at constant speed or coasting down. Has anyone else had this problem? and is there something else it could be?
Is it a ticking or does it sorta sound like deep knocking? It does sound like lifters from what you are saying. Could be casued by sludge build-up or lack of oil to the lifters. Do you know how much oil pressure you have?
It's more of a ticking sound, not deep knocking like rods. Oil pressure is good down the road, but drops off at idle. The gauge runs between the O and the I down the road and about an 1/8 of an inch past the first mark at idle. Not sure of the corresponding pressures. The engine only has 73K original miles, so it could have some sludge build up from long sitting periods. Are there any adjustments that should be made? or just cleaning.

Dump a big ol can of marvel mytery oil in the crank case and drive it a hundred miles or so and change the oil and filter hot. Use cheap oil becasue you should repeat this process again. This should remove any sludge but its not guaranteed to fix your problem. Its a darn cheap start though. Sludge can cause the lifters to gum up and stick.
