I currently have a 2002 7.3 psd f250 Crew Cab short bed. I am very unhappy with its performance when pulling my 2002 35ft fifth wheel toybox (around 11,000) I had to put a 75 hp chip in and have added firestone air bags to rear. I am thinking of moving up to a F350 Crew Cab 6.0 or 7.3 Long Bed Dually. Does anyone have anything to share about the 6.0 and pulling a heavy trailer. On current truck gas mileage is around 13 in the city and 9 when pulling trailer, mountains are scary going downhill with trailer. Is the 6.0 better in mountain towing?
Those articles on picuptruck.com are missleading. If you really want to know ask the guys who own the trucks. yes this means going to the dark side and asking chevy and dodge owners if you are considering them also.
If you are a diehard Ford guy who would be happy with the ford nomatter if it was in the shop more than you have had it at your house then don't listen to anything I say.
I work at a ford and dodge dealership and have driven both the new cummings and the new 6.0 powerstroke the dodge is very nice but the new powerstroke kicks ***, the only truck that gave me the same thrill was the lighting, this truck really moves. I live at about 6,000 ft and if you keep your foot to the floor the tires will break free and keep spinning until you let off. As far as pulling this thing really makes the 7.3 look like a dog...still I would wait about a year or two they are having some problems with the automatics (5speed torqshift) nothing major yet but I would wait just to be on the safe side.
The pickup.com test was written by a guy that represents the duramax. I think that since he is a chevy boy that ford won fair and square. They changed chevys in the middle of the test I think to increase there odds. Didnt work. The most misleading though was that it wasnt the HO dodge. I think that was dispicable. The dodge woulda walked the chevy with the ford in the lead in my opinion if the deal had been on the up and up. If anyone wants to see what I mean. Go on a search. Find the calculater for ets and 1/4 mi times to calculate hp. Now punch in the #s for the 3 trucks. The dodge was not the ho. http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/hp_mph.php
This is a calculator. Self explanatory.
