My truck is a 2005, 87000 miles has 5.4 and is 4x4. Ok the problem is as I'm driving up hills it seems to jerk really bad. It's almost feels like if you had it in neutral and rev te engine and dropped it in drive it's a really hard jerk. The guy who owned truck before me had it wrote down in owners manual he changed tranny fluid I just don't know if he had it flushed. Oh and when it jerks RPMs do not go up or down. Thanks for any help or suggestions. I was thinking of getting a tranny flush.
Mine did that too, only it happened at traffic light or when I was stopped. I would give it gas and the revs went up to around two grand and then would suddenly go in gear.
It got so bad that I was forced to take it to a shop, no way was I going to try to rebuild it in my drive way.
Since it had no codes, they had to take it apart to find out what is going on with it.
The started with the valve body and saw nothing. then they pulled the trans and disassembled. They found a broken snap ring that held the O.D. band drum in place. Some hard parts ahad to be replaced along with a complete rebuild.
The mechanic had a hard time getting it right the first time, but he worked hard on it and so far so good. It cost 1400 dollars.
Pull your transmission dipstick, check the fluid levels when running, check color of fluid (clear red) check for burnt odor! It does sound like your trans. is slipping. Also check your transfer case fluid.
Are you throwing any codes. I had one doing exactly what you are describing and it was not even related to the transmission, although it sure acts like it. Does it only do it under a load? Does putting the selector lever in 2 or turning the overdrive off make a difference. What previous maintenance has been done?
Check engine light isn't on. The guy who Owned the truck before me said he changed trans fluid. Oil and fuel filters changed on time. There is no load in truck it started the other night while using 4x4 if I'm pulling a hill, little or big it will start jerking. Also it doesn't matter if it's in 4x4 or not, does it either way.
I paid 8 bucks for my plugs, but i can tell you this it will be hard for anyone who isn't actually able to see the truck in action to help diagnose without some codes. This can also be caused by COPs and or injectors or other fuel problems. You would be surprised how hard they can make this truck jerk, it feels like it is going to break your neck. With your mileage it could be either. I would change the plugs first and then try it out. Next I would change the COPs. There are ways to test these for an accureate dianosis. I read a bulletin once from Ford to their own techs that stated that over 50% of the COPs diagnosed bad by their own techs ( as warranty items ) turned out to be good. You might also like to do this before proceeding further into injectors. Check all possible fuel issues such as filters, pumps, pressure controls etc. If it comes down to the injectors there is a customer satisfaction bulletin that on vehicles with less than 100,000 Ford will replace the injectors for free. Hope this helps.
