OK guys somethings broke in my steering column. Whatever turns and starts the starter. wtf. How do I fix it?? I need my truck. What can I do to temporarily start my truck and use it?? I need help fast!! Just finished school, have jobs to do (drywall, mantle etc..) Can I get parts????
If it's on the Bronco, check the rod from the key to the ignition switch and see if it has poped out of the slide. You can use a small phillips to slide to start and run if that is the case until you can fix the rod. May have to have a new igniton switch.
If you have a tilt column, and you spring the switch all the way over and it just won't go far enough to crank it, then you probably have broken the piece in the picture below(#14). It's a common problem with 80's and early 90's trucks, and Ford sells a boat load of those things.
If you really need to get it going, take the short cover off from around the column that is near the cluster. When you turn the keyswitch, you will see a rod move back and forth on top of the column under the cover you took off. If you take some pliers and "help" the rod by pushing it down as you turn the keyswitch, it should start.
