I am trying to replace my worn power steering box. I keep looking at the adds for the eb and they show a box that has 3.3 or so turns. Which vehicle did this box come from?
Well I guess I looked at to may web pages yesterday. To much information has entered and been lost in this brain of mine. I guess the one from James Duff was the only one. So I will restate my question now that it it some what clear.
Which vehicle does the power steering box with the 3 1/3 turns that Duff sells come from? Is it the conversion that is made possible by interchanging parts like the one shown on the B.C. Broncos seb page?
I believe the Saginaw conversion is a reworked Scout II box. So, I've been told. I've never seen one.
The Ultimate P/S conversion is a brand new box. The numbers cross to a RHD GM application, but I believe there is some differences from the stock application. But, I also have a reliable source that claims that they are a common unit in some light trucks. I haven't been able to confirm that they are the same though, yet.
ive got a friend that is a total early bronco fanatic! he is doing a gm power steering conversion, it seems to be an easy conversion. He said that a Toyota conversion is also easy, depending on which parts that are used. thanks guys

i was confused enough to go look at the junk yard to see if the f 150 box would fit.
Now I Think I will go and do the 2 wheel drive conversion. There seemes to be plenty of trucks at the junk yard. Hopefully they will not want an arm and a leg.
Thanks for the replies.
Here goes another question. It just happened to me today. The freind I bought this bronco from told me that the kick down in the C-4 transmission was not int the correct place and he would help me get it to the right spot. We messed with it and finally got it into place, tightened everything up, put fluid into the pan, and started it up. I put it into gear and the darn thing would only go into a forward gear. So we took it back apart thinking something was not right(duh) When I got the gear selector shaft out it was not a solid piece. I am not sure if this is supposed to happen, but now I can't even get the forward gears. Well now to the question. Can I just spot weld the selector shaft so it does not rotate freely? Or did I screw something up? Wouldn't be the first time!!! Probably not the last!!!
Be aware that you must have at least a 2.5" lift kit for the F series steering conversion to work. There are some other complications associated with the swap. Another power steering donor is an '86-95 Toyota 4wd (IFS front end). They are plentiful and cheap if you know where to look. I got one from a swap meet a couple of years ago for $40.
Thank you for your replies. Here is what I did. On friday night I started looking on the internet looking at different pictures of power steering boxes. When I got to B.C. Broncos web I was very interested in there conversion methed. I also knew that one junk yard had just got a 77 F-150 with a remanufactured box. It looked very clean compared to the rest of the truck. You could even see the blue paint through the dust. I got a quote of $65 dollars for the 4x4 box and another $35 for the 2x4 box. So far only $100 for the power steering. I see the same box for nearly $800 in the bronco web sights. Yea they are freshly remanufactured, but I am willing to take a chance!! I also got a tilt wheel out of a 81 f-150. I am not going to talk about the price of that. I think he got back at me for giving me the 4x4 box cheap.
Well for the rest of the weekend I fought with the trany. See previous post. After I got the input shaft welded back together I found out that I had put the trany into 1st gear. This is where the shaft was welded to. This means that the input shaft and the linkage would not hook together. When it was hooked together it would only shift into 1,2,D. So I dropped the pan again(probably the 10th time so far this week) and rotated the input shaft 180 and made a bracket to make up for the 4 1/2 inches between the two. So now I will be looking for a input shaft for a bronco. The c-4's at the junk yard have to short of an arm, Though I could use the bracket method again if needed.
Sorry for the long windedness. The wife just doesn't understand the frustration!!
The kick down in the transmission is the one from the carberator.
If you are not careful when putting the valve body in the lever will not inguage the what I think is the kickdown. What I broke was the gear selector which is probabally a press fit item. I would have just fixed it by welding it, but unfortunatally I do not have a welder and everybody I know who does, was either gone or did not have wire,or gas.
