hey everyone i just have a couple question about a 91 non turbo 7.3l idi. im planning on taking the engine out of a 91 f250 that's been sitting in my yard for a while, and put it in my 69 ford f100.
I'm wanting to know how much wiring is going to be involved in the engine swap I'm planning on doing the manual glow plugs but i just don't know a hole lot about diesels so i don't know what else needs power?
want to make sure that the engine is in ok shape before i put it in so is there anything i should look at before i put it in the other truck? but i don't have the money to really go threw the hole engine but i plan on putting in like new GP's, new injectors, checking the hole fuel system, and mabey a IP.
and I'm wanting to start it to before i pull it out but i think some of the glow plugs are bad cause they only stay on for like 3 sec and i know i could probable get it to start if i spray ether in but im kind of scared to do that and is there anything else i should do before i try to start it?
Lots of guys have started their trucks using ether including myself and if one uses common sense-its not that dangerous. Before putting the engine in the f100, I'd make sure the replacement engine is in good shape and running well. You might as well just get the engine working correctly where its right at home and then put a good running engine into the f100. Any project like this won't be cheap - so plan on spending some money.
disconnect the gp system if you plan to use ether, the blast from the ether igniting will pop head gaskets like no tomorrow. i used ether on my last engine when i was glow plug stoopid and i am sure that i would still have that engine in if i had never use ether. So use it if you are ready for rebuilds but if not, dont use it. make sure it is getting fuel first, even with ether if it is isnt getting fuel it wont fire.
