blower motor

How much air is 2.3 CFM with 3000 rpm pushing it. Got a idea for a air induction breather.Have no clue what a cfm is.

CFM is cubic feet per minute.

CFM

Fred,
A CFM is literally a Cubic Foot Per Minuite. Look at the Grainger website they have all kinds of fans rated and you may be able to approximate the volume curve for your blower on that site. Otherwise check with the manufacturer of your blower fan and motor combination. The squirrel cage fan is a positive displacement device. The current drawn by the motor is controlled by the inlet not the outlet of the fan. If you need to regulate the amount of amperage drawn by the fan restrict the inlet a slight amount. If it is a blade type fan then NEVERMIND!

FAN

These are 2x2x1/2 thick blower fans.I am building a mini 51 hood for my breather. It will be 14 inchs wide in the back and have a 10 inch filter 3 inchs high. I should have room to mount 2 of these on the back of the unit blowing air right into the breather. What yall think ? WILL IT WORK ?

Not at all. That's less than a V-8 will pull at idle. Your average 4 barrel carb is in the range of 500-750 CFM at wide open throttle. Some are more and some are less, but that's the average for a street carb.

CFM at what pressure?

Fred,
What is your Idea? If you want to enhance performance off the line or all through the power band you need to calculate the volume needed by the engine at any given RPM. Easy to do if you consider the engine is only using half the cubes per revolution. You gotta convert the cubic inches to cubic feet. etc etc. if you want enhanced performance put a couple of turbos on it. That takes a change in compression ratio (lower) and added clearance at the top of the pistons (heat expansion). I played with turbos on a corvair in a VW back about 40 years ago. 275 HP on the rear wheels of a VW bug was a LOT of fun till the cops started watching me.

BLOWER FANS

All i'm trying to do is increase the amount of air going to the breather. Maybe alittle better mpg. A 51 hood has 3 holes on the sides and 3 across the front. So it can suck all the air it needs. I was thinking with 2 of these squirrell shaped blower fans mounted on it IT would receive a better air flow. CAN'T HURT.

Theoretically, if you are not exceeding the volume pulled by the carb you will be restricting the amount of air it will draw because the motor will have to pull air through the fans instead of the fans pushing air in to the motor.

In other words, yes, it will hurt. Nice try though.

BLOWERS

These small units will be mounted on the outside of the breather on the back. Blowing air in the beather and with the opening in the front and sides I can't see were it would rob air from the carb. All it would do is force air in so the carb can eat it. I understand this ain't alot of air but its more then it would have . MORE AIR BETTER IT RUNS RIGHT

51 HOOD BREATHER

Think about it guys a breather that looks just like a 51 hood NOW THATS COOL.[so i think] What i was thinking is with the filter closed in [all but the holes in the front and side] it needed some forced air from the back. I know its not a turbo charger or a blower but ITS got to help put some air under the hood.Breather hood that is. Looked it back up and got 2 of these units that have 45 cfm each at 2800 rpm.

2.3 cubic foot per minute? You blow harder than that.

Figure a ballon is 1/2 cubic foot that it takes you 5-10 seconds to fill up. Can you blow up four to five ballons in a minute!

If this is an "electric supercharger" setup, it's a waste of time. To feed the little 2.5L 4-banger in my 944, it has been calculated it would take a 40 HP electric motor to give noticeable benefit. There are lots of scammers trying to sell "electric superchargers", tight alongside the "turbulators" and exhaust spinners, it is totally BS. Even JCWhitney isn't carrying them.
