Guys, let the "old fart" here say something about all this! After heaving and sweating, worrying end-strips slipped out of place (those good old cork ones, shrunk to half-size while still in the packaging), putting back in place those God-awful huge & heavy FE intake manifolds, I found that Ford supplied an ALUMINUM 4-barrel intake about '61 or '62 when they bagan touting "High Performance" 390.
Now THAT manifold was a breeze to work with. And I don't know whether it's ports were BIGGER, SMALLER, or tumbled the juice, or whatever, so DON'T ASK!
The Ford intake ports were always larger than the head ports.
In 30 years of working on Fe engines I have Never seen this on a factory engine
The intakes are Always slightly smaller in port size
