Part numbers or engineering numbers? Part numbers are usually a bit more specific. If you have a copy of the Ford Master Parts Catalog, you can look up a part number and find it's application. As we said before, engineering numbers were intended for Ford's internal use, and all bets are off. Although the more specific a particular part is to a particular vehicle, a fender, for instance, the easier it is to figure out.

That's cool, Jaye. And now your original thoughts make a lot more sense. That tag is a handy thing to have, and knowing your change level is extremely helpful, as Ford was making running changes to those engines constantly.

302 introduced Spring 1968 in Passenger Cars, at the beginnng of the 1969 model run (9/1968) for F100's, Bronco's and Econolines.

Numbers found on engine blocks and cylinder heads are casting numbers, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

Engineering numbers are found on some individual parts, can be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

Some engineering numbers are listed in Ford parts catalogs along with the actual part number, but for most of them, the Master Cross Reference Catalog is required.

There are NO Ford part numbers marked on any parts after 1956.

btw: The Borg Warner T-10 is a four speed manual. These were used in misc 1961/66 Passenger Cars with 289/390/406 engines. No T-10's after 1966, replaced by the Ford 4 speed top loader.

Two manual transmissions were offered in 1968/76 302 passenger cars: Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh (also offered in 1969/86 F100/150's), or the Ford 4 speed top loader.
