Advice on Tuner

Ok... I know the caution in adding a tuner to the 6.0. It is the reason for which I have not installed one as of yet. However, browsing around today I saw and then spoke to superchips. They offer a full 2yr or vehicle odometer to 100,000 mile powertrain warranty w/ the cortex model. !!!!!!! Sound to good to be true? Any advice? Any current users?

With the 6.0 it is highly recomended to stick with a tunner that does custom tunes. There are curently only 2 that I know of. One is the SCT(cheaper of the two recomended tunners) with custom tunes from either Eric at innovative diesel, or Matt at gearhead. The other is the Spartan Phanix (spelling???) with there custom tunes. The spartan tunner is more expensive, but it's like they always say you get what you pay for. The Spartan comes with a dashdaq witch is awesome.

yeah.... the only reason I wont go w/ those is due to the warranty. Superchips is offering a 2yr powertrain. That gives me the assurance to actually tune it. I have 55,000 on the truck now. After 100,000 I was planning on head stud, egr delete, etc....

If something sounds to good to be true it often is.

Disclaimer:
I'm not familiar with the product/warranty at all
(and don't really want to know )
but....

With all the problems reported on FTE with blown head gaskets/stretched bolts
and transmission issues caused by (INSERTED: non custom) tuners,
a 2 yr warranty on damage as a result of a tuner would seem to be a sure
fire way to go bankrupt - UNLESS they NEVER expected to have to pay out on it....

Make sure you don't have to "prove" the tuner was @ fault if something fails,
or prove you had no pre-existing issues in your powertrain to collect on
the warranty.

If you are planning on doing an EGR delete on an 07 model, you'll need to get a custom tuner to program the truck's computers. That pretty much is mutually exclusive with all the shelf tuners like superchips. Just keep that in mind. Also that warranty is irrelevant to whether or not your truck will actually be truly tuned or not.

Tex... are you saying that normally the off the shelf tuners will enable the tuning needed to egr delete? ...... Also that warranty is irrelevant to whether or not your truck will actually be truly tuned or not..... truly tuned?

Wait..... ????
I know I don't follow the later years as I'm going to keep my 05 Ex forever

but, an 07 with a 6.0 ????
I thought the 6.0's stopped and the 6.4's etc took over ?

I remain, easily confused in DFW...

but do know my sct with egr disabled has been on since 5k miles and still going strong @ 119k...

No, off the shelf tuning does not deal with EGR deletes period. They are assuming that you aren't going to be violating federal law.

Look at the description of the forum here for that info.

07 was the last yr of the 6.0. 2008 saw the 6.4. I have been reading up and getting advice. SCT or Spartan Phalanx seem to be the winners. However, I want the warranty that superchips is offering. I am very curious to open ideas as I dont wanna end up blowing a head gasket or worse on my pride and joy.

If you plan on doing other mods like the EGR delete then you have to go with custom tuning as it's the only way to handle modifications like that.

However, think of off the shelf tuning like this, it's one size fits all. Some people like it, some people don't. Have you have had a size of clothing that you liked from Brand X, but that same size didn't go well for you from Brand Y? Same thing here with off the shelf tuning, however, with custom tuning(if you go with a good tune writer) it can be fit to how you like it. It is what it is with the off the shelf tuning.

I wouldn't get hung up on that warranty stuff, what really matters is the product that you are getting.

Tex good analogy..... I agree w/ you on warranty vs performance/longevity/assurance. However, the one size fits all is probably better for me. I have 0 experience w/ tuners and my common sense probably would not mesh very well w/ divedeep1 custom tuning
The engine and exhaust are stock. At this point I want reliability and minor performance upgrade. When the truck is paid off and warranty is up.... I'll do the major work and spend the $ for the SCT, ARP studs, egr delete.

I would talk to a custom tuner like KEM, innovative, or even jody they can all write you tunes that will be "safe" and for your truck and your needs... the off the shelf tuners do not tune your specific truck like custom tuners have the ability to do... spend the money on the better tuner as ford can see tuners like edge and superchips iirc

TEX....Hands down I have seen your name all over this sight.... More specifically in the tuner section. What are your recommendations?
what I got:
dieselsite coolant filter, mag hytech front and rear, 2 1/2" level kit, 35" toyos, fox dual stabilizers, accessories alot, and stock everything else. I want to keep stock for a lil while longer.

Patrickke..... new to tuners. If I buy the SCT or xCal2 whatever, How does getting tunes work? Buy the SCT.... then buy available tunes designed for 6.0 from a person or company? Download the purchase tune to SCT?
