Hi, first of all let me give you the background on the truck. It's a 1998 F150 4x4, with a 4.6l v8 and 205,000 miles.
The problem started when I was driving home from work today. It ran fine on the way in, but halfway home it started to miss and sputter. I ran into town and put some fuel stabalizer in it along with a full tank of gas (not really expecting much) it didn't do anything.
I replaced the plugs and wires last summer with OE parts (learned the OE lesson the hard way) The check engine light has been on for over a year reading EGR flow malfunction, it never affected the way it ran so I never fixed it.
It sputters at idle, and all the way up to cruising speed; also it "surges" and will run fine for a second (at idle and cruising speed) but then quickly reverts back to the shaking and sputtering. Has anyone had a similar problem who could lend me some advise before I go on a wild goose chase, and, or spend a bunch of money?
Thanks,
Evan
Well, I believe I have cornered the problem. If you read my original post, where I mentioned putting in new OE motocraft plugs....I should elaborate, I should have said, "I told the mechanic to use OE motocraft plugs"....He said he did (and charged me for them), but when I removed and inspected the number seven plug (just to be safe), I discovered it was a three dollar autolite. So, OE plugs (installed by me this time) took care of the problem.
