400 brains

Hey guys-need a little brain power on this one-I bought a set of ertel pistons (0.020 overbore) for my upcoming 400 and accuired 3 M blocks in the hope of finding one 400 of standard bore. Turns out that they are all 351's bored 0.030 over. Wich means that I won't be able to use my pistons on any of these. One of these looks that it only was run about 5000 miles after the re-build judging by the ridges in the cylinders. This leaves me with a couple of options-I could try to get another block, or I could take advantage of this block that's in good shape and already torn down. If I go this route, I want to use a summit re-build kit that has 8.33:1 forged pistons with Aussie cleveland closed chamber heads to bump up the compression. Here's what I'm wondering:
1) what compression would this give me? The 8.33 CR is calculated with a 0.030 overbore. I don't know the specs on these pistons or If they are similar to the stock ones.
2) If I convert this 351 to a 400 using the same bore, will I have to worry about the rings going higher in the cylinder and being damaged by the ridges even though they are practically nothing?
3) What quench distance should I shoot for and what will it be with this combo? Will I have to shave the deck or the heads any?
4) Were all 2V cleveland heads the closed chamber Aussie heads?

Anybody want to trade some Aussie heads for a new set of 9:1 ertel pistons for a 400?

Thanks for the help man --Bill

If you can't use the pistons, I'd be interested in getting them. I don't have any Aussie heads though.

I would think the 8.33 pistons would work well with the Aussie heads.

Shazam I know that you can handle this one-were these heads only on 302s or the 351C? I forget

The 302C has the small closed style comb. chambers. The 351C 2V has the larger open style comb. chambers just like the US 351C 2V. The Aussie 351C 4V has small closed style comb. chambers like the early US 351C 4V.

what year was the change made to the open chambers in the 4V cleveland heads? So you're saying that there are three instances where these heads were used- 1)-302C 2)-351C (the 4V design) and 3)-early US 351C (4V). So what are the differences between these heads-combustion chamber wise and wich would be the best for what I'm trying to do-will any of them work with 8.33:1 pistons?

OK this is how I understand it ......

The Aussie 302c 2V head has a 62 to 58 cc chamber and has a better exhaust port then the U.S. head.
The Aussie 351c 2V heads are the same as the U.S. 351c 2V heads with a 75 to 85 cc chamber.
The U.S. 351c 4V heads come in both Open chamber and Closed Chamber and are the same as the Aussie 351c 4V .

Talk to me nice Billy I have a set sitting on the shelve getting dusty.
