I finally did it. I pulled all the badges off and acetoned them. Check out my gallery if still interested in doing this job. They look like they are all chrome metal. Who ever discovered this trick...THANKS!
I attempted to do one emblem and the emblem came out a shiny black, not chrome looking. I was wondering if I did not put enough acetone on it or if you actually soaked the emblems in order to remove all paint. Appreciate any tips you have!
Rotty,
what year model do you have? The badges that work are on 99 and up. Once the acetone is applied, keep brushing it on until all the black is gone. this should take about a minute. the black paint is pretty thick. Once black paint is gone, rinse in clean acetone and then polish to brightness.
Those badges look great. Do you think it would work on my 97 Expy ? If I scrape a little black paint off the badge and find chrome underneath, it should work, right ?????
That looks real smooth. I have a 01 150 and am going to try this. Who would of thunk it. I also have a 79 F-100 explorer, do you think this will work on these badges?
Hey guys no need to remove the emblems.Just tape all around them with painters tape. Then hang plastic down the fenders just in case some black gets on them.My neighbor did his with no tape at all and it looks great. But I would still tape with at least 3 layers. Then just cotton swab away. Good luck.
I'm with Jim6ltr....Did mine last week. Used the cotton rounds and round toothpicks to get into the tight spots. Did 5 emblems in about an hour. The cheapest mod there is and looks great. Heres a pic in the gallery
