My 2000 f350 sb crew has a weather related problem with the keyless lock circuts, some where.... Can't seem to get a handle on it, if the temp is 65 or lower the "clicker" works every time, but, in Florida the temp is not often below 65, and the locks wont work on the drivers and passanger rear doors. Not from the "clicker" or the lock switch on the door.
If anyone has heard of this before, and has fix, I sure would like to hear it... The dealer has replaced the solonoids, but to no avail.
Keep postin' and keep watchin'. Great info on this site. As per your problem, someone recently posted with the same problem. If you search throught the first three pages or so I think you'll find it. I believe they narrowed it down to connections coming loose in the heat or something like that. Sorry I can't be of more help, just wanted to welcome you to the nuthouse
Someone a little more knowledegable than myself will be along soon with an answer.
rmaxwell, I've been having this problem myself. Last week I took it to another dealer they said it was the anti- theft module thats getting hot and malfuctioning. You can read up on how my trucks been acting in the past few pages. Both dealers said they've never seen this before... Sure..., I believe that.
Thanks, I just bought my truck, and it had a transferable PROTEK warrenty on it, as soon as I get the transfer I'll start pestering the dealer. thanks.
I have a 2001 Excursion with malfunctioning door locks. Some times they work, sometimes they dont. They (the devil locks)pick and choose which one will unlock or lock with the remote or key pad. I have been to pits of Hell to meet with Ford dealers, repair bays, CEO's etc etc. I keep getting told the same thing we cannot give any clues without putting the $53,000.00 ship anchor on the computer. I hate that because of the high cost involved and then the cost of parts and the actual repair. I have been told by friends it sounds like the actuators. I am not sure what they are or what they do...okay they actuate but it is the rocket science behind them that I am clueless on. I think I am going to take my "Brutus" to a plain ol' auto electrical place and see what they can do. I would even be willing to pay the big bucks there if I had to so long as Ford doesnt get anymore than the monthly payment. ( I really love my 59 p/u it seems nothing goes wrong with it)
It's my understanding that the door locks & remote entry system are controlled by the General Electronics module (GEM). With the aid of a service manual (or maybe someone here), you should be able to locate the module in your respective vehicles and start your diagnostics there. It's possible that the GEM may be "bad", or it could just be a loose wiring harness. You should be able to check the harness for "free", but it may require Ford service to verify the GEM itself.
BTW, even if Ford does the diagnostics, you don't have to let them do the repair. They'll only charge you for the work they do (computer testing). You can then take the diagnosis to another shop and have them "fix" the truck.
