I have a 96 Explorer sport and i have tried to replace the factory radio with an after market (cheep) but it has a CD player. only problem is there is no sound comming out at all. I Have the JBL system (I think) and the connection from the speakers has a Bl/Wht wire on it that is AMP Ground.
Question: Do i have to bypass the AMP? or is their some way of using it. I have the wiering harness that is used for this rado but do i have to install a (filter ??? ) Cant remeber what they called it that i was told to buy it is suposed to connect to the Speakers and make the AMP work with my system. Still nothing comes out of it.
If I remember correctly.......you need that part to use the amp or else you either have to buy a different part to bypass the amp. I believe the amp is located in the back rear quarter panel. You can also bypass the amp by running the wires back from the amp up to your cd player. Not sure how it all works but if you got the money I would just recommend getting the special wiring harness and just plugging it in and go.
It's my understanding that you need to bypass the amp. At least that's what I had to do when I put in an aftermarket CD player/receiver. The amp is behind the passenger side interior rear quarter panel. It is held in with the push type connectors, if I recall correctly. You disconnect the amp and run the wires to the receiver of buy an adapter from Crutchfield. I ran my wires along the door sills. Ford put a channel under the door sills that handled all the speaker wires without a problem. If you buy the receiver from Crutchfield they give you the adapter and everything else you need to install the radio.
i found and adapter that enabled me to run off that factory amp only i had to figure out how exactly what wire was the amp turn on line and it sounds good for a cheep CD player.
thnaks both of oyu for the information. I ma sure in the years to come i will be asking alot more questions about my new toy.
