i just got a 98 f150 with a 4.6 and am wondering if i have the right dipstick in it, he said he replaced the tube. The dipstick i have is like no other ive seen in a truck its like braded wire with a peice of steel on the end to check the level with. is this correct? any input would be great
thanks

The cable type "dipsticks" were used on several applications, and I'm pretty sure my old '98 F150 used that type.

That is what my '97 has. If you have the remote oil filter then 6qt's will not bring it up to the full mark 6.5 will get you close to it, just to give you an idea.

My '98 5.4 has the remote filter under the bumper and 6 quarts puts the oil right smack in the middle of the low/high range on the dipstick. Maybe the 4.6 is different though.
BTW, I also have the weird 'cable/wire' type dipstick...it's a PITA when it comes to pushing it back in, but it seems to be accurate.
My 98 has that kind of dipstick. I also have the filter up by the fender. 6 quarts gets it close enough. 200,000 miles running on 6 quarts each time at changes...( knock on wood....a couple times ...LOL...) I would rather be a snitch under than over.
