This is a 2000 Expedition 2wd with all the luxuries (air suspension, rear climate control ext) 5.4L 100k the thing cranks but no start. I completed the following
1 made sure there was gas
2 checked fuses and replaced relay
3 check inertia switch (no accidents anyway)
4 checked spark
5 checked power to fuel pump
6 dropped tank and checked fuel pump
I tried to listen/ feel for a hum when the tank was is didnt hear/feel anything so i dropped the tank took pump assembly out and plugged back in to make sure it didnt work but to my surprise it worked on cranking? So what could it be?? could there have been a loose connection and I somehow reconnected it in the process of disassembling and now it works?Should I replace the fuel pump anyway? Please help!
I would certainly replace it since you're there. This seems likely the trouble. Maybe should have banged on the tank first as this sometimes temporarily fixes it.
Check the dashboard to see if the "Theft" light is flashing when you try to start. Mine started doing this a couple weeks ago and will crank, but not start. I play with the entry code, the key in the door-lock, or keep turning the key on/off until the "theft" light stops flashing, then it starts fine.
My truck had the same problem, mine turned out to be a bad fuel pump. "CWPG48", brings up a good point also, a lot of people have the problem of the trucks security system not letting the truck start. Also make sure you are using the trucks original key, they are safety keys, so using a regular metal key might not work with the security system.
