What is the best way to store a spare 6.0L block? A friend of mine from FTE bought a truck with a blown 6.0L. The block is ok but the engine needs a rebuild. We've got a few 6.0s running around so I figured it would be a good idea to have a spare block around which brings me back to the point of what is the best way to store it? I've got plenty of indoor space for it. Fill the cylinders with oil so they won't rust? I've really got no idea so any information would help greatly.
Thanks in advance.
By the way it's not only the block it's got the heads and valve covers as well. No injectors fuel lines are off but it is mostly complete.
Wipe down any exposed machined metal surfaces with oil. Filling the the cylinders would probably be overkill, Just a good shot like 20ml or so in each one should keep the rings from setting up. I would probably go back over it every 3-4 months w/ a rag and rotate the crank an 1/8 of a turn. The most important thing is keeping it out of elements. Not under a tarp but inside-preferably climate controlled.
When you say block that to me means no innards. I've been storing a 428 cj standard bore for years. I gave a light hone to the cyl. and lifter bores, coated everything with grease and put in a plastic trash bag and set it on a shelf. Have checked it a couple of times and no rust.

Yeah I realized after I posted that it probably wasn't the best way to describe it. It's still got all the internals. Not sure if the heads or FICM are on it. I've yet to see it I was just wondering if it was even worth it for me to try to get it from him or if I didn't have a good enough way to store it. I can definitely store it indoors but climate control isn't going to happen.
Yeah sorry. I doubt it even has one. Most of what's worth anything is gone off it I know that much. I've yet to see it just trying to decide if it's worth it to try to get it or not and it appears to be that it is.
