replacing fuel rail on injectors

I have an 01 V10. I removed the driver side fuel rail to replace the spark plugs. I know now that this was not necessary. I am having trouble getting the O rings to slip into the rail. Are there any tricks to doing this. Would it be OK to put some kind of lube like WD 40 or similar on the O rings to help them slip into place?

You already put the o-rings on the injectors, yes?

Spit.

Well, maybe not. I would try gasoline first. Or petroleum jelly. Motor oil would be my last choice, because who knows what's in the oil, versus the o-ring rubber.

OK, my mistake. When I pulled the rail off 3 of the injectors pulled out of the rail and left the top O ring in the rail. I just needed to take a small pick and pull the O rings out of the rail and install on the injectors, then insert into the rail. They slipped right in.
Thanks for the replies.
