newbie here.i have a 96 powerstroke,it keeps shifting in and out of overdrive(it won't make up its mind).fluid level is good, does'nt smell burnt.any help would be greatly appreciated.
steady throttle.seemed to do it going up a slight hill.checked for DTC's and got 0603keep alive memory.i put a starter in it last week,i'm sure thats where that code came from.no other codes present.
Well it should shift out of overdrive going up hill if it doesn't have enough power. My truck shifts into overdrive at 35 and if I stay at that speed it will wanna go in and out. So normally I stay at a little higher speed like 38 mph. And it shifts out of overdrive up hill. Once it does I click the overdrive button off until I reach the top of a hill then click it back on.
we drive this local route almost daily, and it wasn't a problem before yesterday.it is changing gears every 3 to 5 seconds up,down,up,down etc. until you lock out overdrive with the button.
Well 35mph should be TCC lock up, at 45mph the shift to O/D. If your riding just above and below that point shifting would be normal. I avoid that speed or if trapped behind traffic I lock it out until I can run at a different speed.
Might be the throttle position sensor has a glitch at that point now, a "blip" in the signal causing it to do so. Bad, worn but not enough to trigger a trouble code yet.
If its the problem testing with a analog meter a minute would prove/disprove it, digital meters don't tend to react quick/smoothly enough to properly test one.
i'll check it out(after i dig up an analog meter i think my step dad has one.all ihave is digital fluke.)thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it,and any further ideas welcome as well.this is a great forum, and i'm glad i joined.
