So I read up a little on this, but still a rookie. I got a check eng light on the 6.4 08 I own. Particulate filter full. Has 22k on it. I did put an after market air filter system on the truck. Was that a mistake? Or, is it just time to clean the dam things. I driven about 50 miles with the light on and Have to do more to take it to a dealer. What should I do? thanks from the new guy. Dan
It's an AE. I think. The truck seems slow and mileage sucks. The AF has been on for a while. I cleared the code but it keeps coming back after a few miles. Also I forgot to mention, I was up in Tahoe and had it idleing for at least 20 mins one day. It started after that. Any significance?
As long as you put it back to stock, clear the code then I think you are fine.
I don't think your DPF is full. Just monitor for regens. should have them anywhere from 100 miles to a max of 650. PCM will force a regen if it has not by then.
If the motor is a little sluggish then I would suggest a good hard drive to clean it out.
I don't have any hands-on experience with your truck, but I do have the factory PCED. So, here's what the manual says about your DTC:
P2002 - Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the efficiency of the diesel particulate filter for a concern. The efficiency of the filter is determined by the amount of restriction in the filter for a certain exhaust flow rate. The diesel particulate filter is preconditioned for 5,000 km (3,107 miles) before the PCM begins to monitor the level of restriction. The test fails when the measured level of restriction is less than the expected level calculated by the PCM.
Possible Causes:
Dirty air cleaner element
Recent manual or thorough diesel particulate filter regeneration
Aftermarket accessories and performance modifications
Modified tailpipe
Exhaust leaks before or near the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
Leaks in the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor connecting hose
Damaged diesel particulate filter
Diagnostic Aids: Check for leaks in the exhaust system. Check for aftermarket exhaust accessories and performance modifications that decrease the exhaust restriction. If a new diesel particulate filter was recently installed, verify the diesel particulate filter parameter reset procedure was carried out.

But I'll do as you say. Hope the stock one goes back on ok. I was ready to take it to the dealer. Probably void my warranty if I do huh? What are potential issues with driving it more as is. (I can't replace the to stock right away).
well that was a waste of good money. Why would anyone buy one if they mess with the DPF. Oh and thanks.. Hope I did not hurt it. other than that I love it.
just a false code in this case. What you should do it ensure it is on there good, you don't what any dirt to get around it and dust the turbo or mess up you maf sensor.
I take it that you don't ever get the "cleaning exhaust filter" message on your display. One of the older flashes (the one I have) shows the message till it is completed.
