electric choke problems
I have a 84 351w with a 4180c 4bl holley carb with electric choke. I am haveing trouble with the choke not opening. It appears free and has appx 12 volts going to it. Could there be a vacuum problem? It opens easily by hand, but does not stay open completely. After you open it by hand and then open the throttle completely it closes. I have a different but similar carb that I looked at to see what was in it, and upon opening the choke cover (3 screws and black cover) the spring "sprang". How do you put it back properly? Is there a piston that may be sticking?

I haven't looked at a Holley lately but the end of the bimetalic spring fits into a slot in the linkage. You can check the cap by hooking 12 volts to it and see if the spring moves as it warms up. It sounds like the cap may be open.
