My father has a 2000 V-10 F250. About 10% of the time the truck will not start up after being turned off for about 10 minutes. I pulled no codes and the fuel pressure was 39PSI.
The last time this happened it cranked strong but would not start. Then I hit the gas pedal hard two times and the second I cranked it fired right up. From what I have searched it sounds like the IAC. Any ideas? Also, is it located right behind the throttle body on the V-10? Thanks.
This IAC test method was in the forum sometime ago. (I never had to use it yet) .
...........................
"IAC Test: When it starts and dies, hold the go-pedal down about .5 to 1 inch and see if it starts up and runs right. If so, it's the IAC. "
Question, what is the IAC? newbee, I am trying to learn about my truck, thank you in advance, Is there a "Bible" on the V10 like in the Power Stroke Section? 2006pelon
IAC stands for Idle Air Control. It opens when your engine is cold to boost your RPMs so your engine warms up faster. If stuck closed, engine would sputter.
It closes as the engine warms up...hence your idle lowers.
Seeing this thread come to life again reminds me that I never reported back! I replaced the IAC and and still was having starting issues. It was the fuel pump. I pulled out the tank and put in a new pump and it runs great!
The only odd thing is that when I installed the new IAC it "hums" fairly loud? Runs great but has a hum. I think I am going to clean out the old one when I get a chance and put it back on.
jh818, you saved me again, thank you again. I ordered a "Service Manual" on dvd so I can learn more about this engine, I had a 2006 F250 PSD and I sold it, it was a high maintanance vehicle and I was forced to retired (lack of work) and I am in a Fixed income. Right away I noticed the difference in maintanance. Thank you again pelon2006
I am fairly new to the world of the V10 and own a 2005 with 68000 miles. I had new plugs installed but still have a miss at idle. The miss comes and goes and is worse when cold. At times I think it is going to stall completely sitting at a light but so far it has not died. Does this sound like it could be an IAC problem? I checked with a local dealer and was told that I needed to purchase the entire throttle body to get the IAC is that correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Tonto
It sounds like that could be your problem. Your dealer is trying to make a buck off you. The IAC separates from the throttle body on the back. You just need to pull off the throttle body to get to it. Buy some mass air meter/ electric part cleaner and clean the all the carbon out of the IAC. Usually they don't need a full replacement, just a cleaning.
