E150 OD transmission noise?
I thought I'd tap the collective wisdom and experience of the forum with this one.
We have a '93 Econoline E150 (302 V8) with the overdrive transmission. Bought it at 84k miles, now have 93k on it. Prior owner maintenance was regular, was used for occasionally towing small boats.
It seems to me that first gear sometimes "whines" a little louder than I remember as the van accelerates. I notice it most after it's been parked awhile. Fluid has always appeared OK (mechanic check when purchased) and levels are fine. Everything else is fine in terms of shifting and performance. I just had routine service done on the transmission (fluid and filter) in case the filter weas clogged or fluid was old; mechanic found nothing visibly amiss (no filings, bolts or gears laying in the pan!). Service didn't seem to change anything. Is this something to lose sleep over?
