plans for the bed sides are to remove the "bandstand" racks, and fabricate a set of tapered solid sides. about 3 foot in front to 1 1/2 foot in back. then a solid back panel so i can haul stone and dirt.
and it is also getting dual wheels.
so the front locking hubs (those Little sticking out things) will be hidden and protected.
Oh, no no, these are not bandstand racks - they are cattle racks on a bandstand bed :-) Are they aluminum or steel, if they are aluminum then you can probably sell them for quite a lot of money... And your plan sounds very good to me, I think it will look pretty nice with those tilted bedsides and being a fairly short 4x4 dually with a narrower bed (most dually flat beds I have seen are about as wide as an 18-wheeler), it will have a mean looks to it By the way what brand are those offroad headlights you have on it for the snow plow? They look pretty heavy-duty, so probably nothing that is made anymore?
i am actually going to keep the racks, you never know when you will need to have 4 foot sides on the truck. the bed is 6.5 wide, 8 ft long. and it is all aluminum. that is the main reason i bought it. even if the truck can not be repaired, the dump bed is coming off and going on my 88 diesel.
that plow headlight and blinker setup is what we used back in the 70's and early 80's.
you can still get them, signal stat part #675W
Well tom you made out a little better than i did. Picked this up the other day. 73 Highboy. 78/9 HP 60 front wiht a 14b rear. 410s. Its got the 78/9 f250 4wd Steering conversion and a front ubolt flip. 390/4spd dual wheels. Cab is solid. Not rust. needs a pass side fender. Steel flatbed. $600
so speaking of inquiring things, i think i need to find a friend with a trailer.

Yes indeed, these cattle racks seem to come very handy if you are moving little trees and other semi-loose things. So how wide is your dually axle? Do you expect the tires to stick out about half a foot on each side from under the bed?

Do you think those plow lights will work good as offroad lights? Then I can switch them between lighting up the road way far ahead (hi beams) and closer for wider lighted area (low beams)...
they use regular round headlight bulbs. so as a set of add on lights, they will not give you that much better lighting.
if you want to really light things up, you should get a set of kc daylighters with the 130 watt halogen bulbs. those things make night into day.
here is a set on fleabay : KC Hi LiTES Daylighter 130w Driving Lights # 634 Black! - eBay (item 370464976825 end time Dec-19-10 08:15:41 PST)
price ain't bad either. all you will need is a place to mount them. if i remember correctly from the pics of your truck, you have a front push bar setup, rite?? if so, you will only need 2 tabs welded on, and then a few relays, some wire, and a switch to put them on.
