these trucks are definately built for shift on the fly at hiway speeds. unless your rears are spinning when you try to shift into 4hi, they dont like that much lol. ive driven all the way home from work (bout 20 miles) at 60 mph in 4hi no problemo....i think youd blow your engine before you hit hiway speed in 4lo though lol ... i would with my 4.56s anyway i think in 5th i get maxed out around 30-35 MPH hahaha
i stand by indifferent ratios. the teeth may be fine dont mean its the right ratio. pull the covers and check them.
only other thing i can think of is stripped t-case gears or stretched chain. that usually only happens when u put your foot into it though unless its real bad. and it makes a hell of a loud clanking and after a while you can smell burning oil hahahah good times with my ole bw-1356
You can't drive around in four wheel drive unless you are on a very slippery surface. If you do, the truck will hop and jump until you break something expensive.
I'd think you'd blow the transfer case if it were 2 different ratios
exactly. when i had 3.08 and 3.55 (i thought they were the same due to the tags btw) i was on a real icy patch covered in snow then the ice ended the snow didnt found dry pavement its started buckin and hopping i stopped asap but it still stretched the **** out of my t-case chain... i put the NP205 in and the different ratios didnt blow it just caused it to bind up real nice and make it hard to get out of 4hi

i can do it now i have 4.56 in both diffs not a problem. i had a hard time with the 3.55/3.08 they would cause my NP205 to bind up and id have to back up to pull it out of gear. now i dont with the 4.56... not a problem no hopping or skipping either... unless i turn obviously
yeah it got kinda nasty here so I put it in 4H and it felt like the back end was kinda hoppy, I don't know, thats the first time I've ever used 4x4 in the truck so who knows?

same thing with my truck.. had my mechanic test drive it n look it over b4 i bought it. he said it needs u-joints in front.. when in 4wd it clanks a bit. also comming to stop front end kinda "jumps" a bit wile slowing down...also traqnsfercase needs to be lubed... will get done this weekend b4 major sunday snow storm expected

the jumping while slowing down sounds more like ball joints to me? or warped brake rotors or your ABS doing things its not supposed to.

pull the covers and check? that never hurt anything. might find its time to get new bearings or something.
