I've got a 04 Excursion with 40,000 miles on it and a 6.0. A couple of weeks ago, I went to move it from the house and my shop (I kind of switch between it and my 250) and when it cranked, it was missing, smoking, running rough. It was cold outside and it had been sitting and seemed to clear out so I didn't think too much about it. The next time I tried to drive it it wouldn't crank forever and when it did it ran rough again but cleared out. After that it will not crank at all.
What I have done:
1. unplugged the sensor at on the Pass side valve cover, no difference.
2. Checked voltage at the computer under the overflow tank.
I only get 19.5 volts while the glow plugs are on.
48 volts when they click of
19.5 volts when motor is spinning over.
Does this mean I need to check the solder joints on the board?
Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine that I experienced the other day. $950 later and a new FICM and the truck runs great. Thought my batteries were the problem and found out the FICM had a short.
