Question regarding transmission

I have a 351W locked in to purchase, but would a C6 or AOD transmission be the best. I am shooting for 3:50 gears in the axle.
All this will be going into a 1951 F1
Thanks again. <!-- / message -->

really depends on your primary goals. if highway driving, around town, gas mileage, nothing extreme than go AOD. if towing, racing, more abuse is involved go with C6.

A bone stock C6 will handle almost anything you want to throw at it, while an AOD would need to be built up to even handle the 351W with mild power.
The C6 was designed very well by ford, and in stock form held up to any/all engines including the big blocks and diesels, until it was replaced by the E4OD.
The AOD was seldom used behind a 351W, mostly 302 or smaller engines. The money needed to make one capable of handling hard/severe duty would be better spent on an E4OD and the stand-alone controller needed to make it work.

That said, unless this 51 F1 is intended to be used for lots of highway driving, I'd go with the C6. Much cheaper from the start, and upkeep is so much cheaper.

I`d go for the C6 no matter what! Especially since you`ll have 3.50 gearing.

If your gearing was something like 4.10`s, the C6 would be killer on gas, but that`s nothing for you to worry about.

x 2

Are you going to be on 15" wheels?

The difference between 15" & 16" wheels is effectively the same as the difference between 4.11 & 3.55 axles, so needs remembering for final gearing (with C6 not having O/D).
