1995 7.3 Fuel Bowl

Trying to decide if I'd rather JB weld or replace this puppy. Has anybody purchased one lately? How shocking is the $$$???

Last time I looked, you could get one from rockauto.com for about $260+/-. If you opt to go that way, they have 5% discount codes which should cover the shipping.

Thanks for the update. Turns out I got lucky ..it's coming from a sensor. After running the truck for about 30 mins, scrubbing the back of the bowl with shop rags and chopsticks (yes, chopsticks...handy things they are!) and using every angle my hands and my NAPA inspection mirror could muster, I saw the drip! It's coming from the lowest sensor on the back (firewall) side of the bowl. Is this the water in fuel sensor?? It had (yes past tense, somewhere in the years the wire was disconnected, fell off whatever) a single wire connected to it. Can't quite tell what color the wire used to be. The sensor has golden colored flats for a wrench.

If it is the WIF sensor, do I need a special type of o-ring to use? Anyone know if NAPA carries a good one?

That is the fuel restriction sensor. It is screwed into the fuel bowl w/ 1/8" NPT.

Fuel Restriction Sensor
I believe it's the "water in fuel sensor". 94-95 had them located down low facing the firewall. 96-97 had them relocated down low facing drivers side. Fuel restriction sensor is the one up top, drivers side.

Guzzle's got it.

The 'cheap' fix is to drain the bowl, pull the sensor, and put in a pipe plug. (I'd seal it with removable locktite.) As long as you change the filter at the recommended interval, you should be good to go.

Most excellent! I guess the next step is to see if I can tell if it's from the threads or the sensor body. Maybe I can cram a finger into that abyss and find out !

Thanks again guys....this really did help.

Pipe plug is in. Not an easy reach, glad I have small hands. I also ordered a new sensor and a set of fuel bowl o-rings today for an eventual fuel bowl cleanup and rering.

my bowl was leaking too and after removing the heater inside and cleaning it, i discovered several holes in the bottom. fixed it with jb weld and drove it for a while.. but now removed the bowl and added regulator and remote filter.. paid less than 100 for everything and i believe it was well worth it.

dsubmariner,
where did you get the regulator and remote filter?
I would consider this if it is a good fix. I don't like fooling around with JB weld
and reusing such an old fuel bowl. Does this require pulling fuel pump?

I bought the regulator of eBay for 40 and the fuel filter mount for 25 at a local store . Bought filter for 12 at auto parts place as well as some fittings and fuel line . I left the original pump . I did ended up and had to replace both return lines and I mounted a electric pressure gauge in the cab

any risk with running this set up with a mechanical pump long term? I'm not into performance mods per se but if it's a mod that would likely outlast a jb welded fuel bowl and be a lot cleaner under the hood then I'd be willing to give it show. This is my first psd and my first time under the hood and I don't want to mess it up. It seems as though it'd be harder to mess up this mod than it would rebuilding a cracked and creviced fuel bowl only to put it together and find more leaks. I just don't want to do this mod and risk killing my mechanical pump prematurely. I might need some help on figuring out inlet/outlets on regulator and filter. I really like the way everything hooks up and it's cheaper than a new bowl assembly. Also, basically three lines hook up to regulator right? on for each head and an input which is from the filter which is in the outlet of the pump. so where does the return line hook up?
