help with psd battery draw
the alternators are new the batteries are new they all test good and Ive checked them for a draw
its a 2000 ford f250 7.3l
the previous owner added all kinds of aftermarket crap like turbo timer hour meter, heated mirrors, aux lights, fuel heater, egt, chip, trans fan.
i have spent hours removing things and chasing wires and draw testing this truck with a multimeter
Ive pulled every fuse, relay, and even the brake controller and also my entire alarm system and the only thing that makes any difference is the inside the truck 5 a fuse for the gem (fml) or the 50 amp maxi under the hood for the power dis box or if i disconnect the cable that its powered from on the front
the reading I'm getting is .17 .18
if i disconnect the gem it goes to .02
when i drive the truck the charge light will go on and off but only seems to do it if i get into it at all, but that did that a year prior to these issues, Ive also replaced the lower alt connector
whats next? buy a new gem and try that?
Also, I found this previous post about battery draw... I quote:
The easiest way to check the alternator is to touch it in the morning, after the engine has completely cooled. If the alternator is warm to the the touch, it is drainiing your battery. The alternator should be as cool as your engine block.
My DB Electrical alternator, that was 4 months old, had the same problem last week. Bad diode.
