When I'm driving down the road at a steady speed you can hear the turbo surging and the boost Gauge will jump around abt 3 or 4 pounds constantly at the steady speed. Is this normal or what could it be? Also I can be goin 45 miles per hour and abt 1600 to 1800 rpm and it will be building abt 20 psi, it seems it builds alot boost real fast and top out the boost gauge real quick any info will help?
Caleb what year truck do you have? Do I understand you right? Are you cruising with 20 lb of boost. By cruising I mean 5th gear 55-60mph. At least that in my range any way according to your rpm range. To answer your question if I understand it right no its not normal to cruise with 20 lbs of boost, but as far as the 1-2lbs of boost that can be normal. I've have reached 5lbs. We really need to know what kind of condition your driving. Empty or loaded in hills or flat?
I just reread your post. I might have misunderstood you. Your speed/rpm range is different than mine so its this reason I ask. At 45 mph and 1600-1800 rpm are you accelerating? 1800 rpm I'm doing 60 mph. So I would think if I was doing 45 at 1800 I'd be boosting cause I'd be accelerating.
Well I'm not sure the rpm at 45 bc I'm not driving to look I was just guessing but when I'm steady driving at 45mph tha boost is that high. And also iv noticed when the truck is at idle the exhaust changes pitches in sound if you understand what I mean

I do understand. Is the pitch like a wistle maybe. I think its normal and from the turbo. Mines done it ever since I bought is over 100,000 miles ago. What's your round condiction? If you have a slight grade turbo will inch up. I watched my turbo gauge coming in today after reading your 1st post. On the highway I can keep 2 psi @ 60mph @ 18000 rpm the a slight grade will inch me up to about 5 psi.
Yeah it's almost like a whistle kinda and you can watch the boost gauge keep goin up 3 to 4 lb and back down and keep doing that as I'm keeping my steady speed. And if I'm runnin down the road at steady speed of 55 to 60 I'm building 18 to 20 lbs of boost and if I go up a hill running the same speed it'll top out the boost gauge at 27 lbs. It seems to top it out so easy
