Another mpg question
Truck as listed below is a '01 v10 4x4, K&n intake, manual tranny, 4 inch lift, 35's. Truck has recent tune up. Plugs, cops, fuel filter, oil, and so on. I shift around 2k and have not had the motor above 3k. It also has 112k on it. I just today checked to see what gearing the truck has and the sticker on the door indicated c3 which I am pretty sure is 4.30's. Which with having larger tires would be in my benefit.
Anyways, since the tuneup the truck has managed around 9 mpg the first tank and 7.5 the 2nd. The first tank was 80 to 90% highway. The 2nd was 50/50.
Is this mpg by any means normal? Or do I have an issue? Things that come to mind are.... I have a good exhaust leak on passenger side manifold from 5 broken bolts. I plan to fix when it warms up but, doubt that would hurt mpg. The 2nd thing that seems possible is the tire size throwing off the speedo and actually going further than stated but, I doubt its far enough off to mess it up too bad. Other than that maybe a coil pack but, I have no codes.
Any thoughts? Thanks all!
I find it really depends on the gas and temp outside. When I full up the numbers on the lie-o-meter tell me how far I got on the tank. In the summer it is 299-311 miles till empty, now in the winter I lost miles, according to that 225 mte. Normally these numbers are optimistic. Fuel up with real gas instead of ethanol and it increases. Right now, in December, 9mpg isn't bad. 8-9mpg is the about the best I get highway when it is really cold like this. Plowing it with mine it said I was getting 3.2mpg, LOL, more like 2.2mpg. Simply NOT a truck for the penny pincher at the pump.
